Sunday Morning Special: Speed-Boosting Scoop + How to Use Summer Fruit

Happy Sunday, all! We finally had a fairly dry week in our neck of the woods, so I was able to enjoy the sights on the walk to and from work. Have I told you how much I love living in an apartment within active commuting distance from work? I still drive on days when it's stormy or when time is tight, but when I can swing it, walking to work is such a painless way to sneak in a couple extra thousand steps! By foot, by bike, by car, by ...continue reading

Can you believe the week is more than half over already? It's amazing how a three-day weekend throws off your calendar. I'm not complaining about it, of course! I am a little nervous about the upcoming weekend, though...I'm signed up to run a 20K at the Dam to Dam, but my tendinitis has been acting up. Again. I've been cross training and trying to take it easy for the past week or two, but I'm still feeling less than 100 percent. ...continue reading

Somehow, we went from spring on Tuesday (top) back to winter on Friday (bottom)—such crazy weather across the Midwest this week! I learned my lesson battling through a windy 6-miler on Wednesday, so I rocked yesterday's long run on the treadmill. It certainly was not the most exciting run I've ever done, but thanks to some new tunes and a couple good podcasts, I made it through 12 miles. My longest non-race run yet! This morning, I'm ...continue reading

How's your weekend going? After last Sunday's awesome group fitness training session (I begin teaching one day a week in mid-May!), I mixed it up and hit the road for a run this weekend. The weather has been perfect the past few days, making the 10 miles feel like a breeze. Well, not exactly, but the sunshine and 60° temps made the work a lot more fun! It also gave me an opportunity to try out my new kicks. So far, so good—and it was a ...continue reading

Happy Sunday, everyone! What a crazy week it's been. A few people on Twitter summed up how we all felt about the Boston situation Friday night pretty well, I think. Thankfully, for me, this weekend has been a nice mix of activity (Friday morning yoga, Saturday morning barre) and splurges (brunch, afternoon sweets—recipe to come soon). Today, I have plenty of exercise ahead, as I'm taking part in a 6-hour training session to study up ...continue reading

Runners Are…

I had planned to share my top relay tips and lessons learned today, but after the events in Boston on Monday, I decided to shuffle things around. That post is still on the way, but first, I wanted to reflect a bit. As I mentioned in my last post, I've only been a "runner" for the past year. But after jumping in feet first, I feel like I am now part of the community. So it was tough for me, as it was for us all, to hear about the ...continue reading
