Sunday Morning Special

How’s your weekend going? After last Sunday’s awesome group fitness training session (I begin teaching one day a week in mid-May!), I mixed it up and hit the road for a run this weekend. The weather has been perfect the past few days, making the 10 miles feel like a breeze. Well, not exactly, but the sunshine and 60° temps made the work a lot more fun! It also gave me an opportunity to try out my new kicks. So far, so good—and it was a bonus when I realized halfway through my run that they matched my top (see above)!

Today, I’m volunteering with my family at the Hy-Vee Road Races that are being thrown as part of the Drake Relays. Good luck to all who are running. I’ll be cheering loud—and saving a cup of water—for you!

And now, some of my favorite stories of the week:

  • Does your home’s location make you more likely to be frazzled? Iowa, my stomping grounds, is ranked as the #4 least stressed state, according to a new Gallup poll. After living in another state and comparing the two, I can see why Iowa might be among the most chill. How does yours stack up?
  • We’re all busy. That’s no excuse to go hungry, though! Pack a few of Fannetastic Food’s top healthy snacks to stay well-fueled while on-the-go.
  • As endorphin-boosting as a cardio session can be, it’s tough to see real changes in performance and body composition without mixing in strength training. Lindsay’s List reminds us why we should hit the weights at least twice a week.
  • I’m beyond pumped that our city’s big farmers market launches for the season next week and have big plans for all of the fresh produce! I’ll have to snatch up the first box of spring berries I see to make these Skinny Strawberry Chocolate Chip Muffins from Sally’s Baking Addiction.
  • From remembering to express gratitude to living in the now, browse through Brittany’s round-up on A Healthy Slice of Life for 10 ways to be happier today.
  • Just in time for summer vacation season, Julie at Peanut Butter Fingers compiled six killer workouts that can be done anytime, anywhere (including at home if you’re planning a staycation or just want to spice up your routine).

Do you have any summer getaways on the agenda?

  1. Hope you enjoy my muffins when you make them! They are certainly one of my favorites. Thanks for linking to them. :)

    • I’m sure I will, Sally! And I’m so glad I discovered your blog this weekend. There are so many recipes I want to try now! :)

  2. Congrats on the new teaching gig! I hope to someday be able to take a class from you. :) Glad to hear that the new kicks are working for you, too. Ten miles? You rock, lady!

Thanks as always for the great links. Those muffins sound awesome, as do Julie’s workouts. As for summer getaways, we’ll be headed to Minnesota for a wedding at the end of June and hopefully going to Chicago at some point this summer (maybe we could meet up!). Other than that, I’ll be soaking up the AZ heat!

    • I’d LOVE it if we could take a class together someday, Jenn! Thank you so much for the kind words about the training class and run! :)

Soaking up the Arizona sun does not sound like a bad way to spend summer at all! A June wedding in Minnesota should be absolutely beautiful. Yes, that would be amazing if we could meet up when you’re in Chicago—do keep me posted about the timing!
